(Sorry I can't speak German) . . . I much enjoy your very interesting website, especially the section on the Hessenstein. I was 6 years old and was on that voyage from Penang to Southampton in August 1962.
I still have memories of the trip – the fancy dress competition – my mother put me in my bathing trunks, and titled me 'Tarzan'. I didn't win any prizes. The gully gully men at Port Said.
I thought the ship did stop at Djibouti?
